NEWS!

Spring... its here! YAY! And there are only two more weeks of school left and I get my kids home! I can't wait. :)

Here's an update on my writing:

Primal Deceptions is still out with agents, time will tell.

Currently I'm working on two other books, kind of three, all single titles. I can hear you already saying "WHAT?" I didn't intend for this to happen but all three are suspense, even my paranormal is chuck full of this element. I've found that in the course of writing these stories my mind needs to work situations out, which is fine, except I hate to not write every day. :) So I've found a way around this. Write more than one story at a time!

I do have a list of importance though --

Taste, I Dare Ya!

Devil's Deal

I love the title Devil's Deal but the other two... well, they are what I call 'working titles' -- a way to save the work. Hopefully by the time I finish them, I will have much better ones.

Old books: Recently I looked back at my other works and dove into a rewrite of Six Months & Counting which was both exhilarating and humbling. I love these characters and want their story told but I've learned a lot since I wrote this(my first finished book)--the story's originally intended target market and thus plot won't work for what I have found I like to write the most. It needs to be tweaked. And for the moment this task is going to wait. I intend to 'work' on it here and there as the mood strikes but not with intent to get it out there again. For several reasons, but the most obvious is--its already been out there. The title of the book, the characters and many elements of the book are going to remain intact, though completely revised. The point is, I can't resubmit it without a lot of hassle. I've decided to go with the newer ms's for now for submitting and hopefully someday when I finally do get that 'call', I will be able to then say, "I have this book... its been completely revised... would you be interested?" :)   I can dream anyhow!

Newsletter

On other fronts, as many of you may have noticed, I've decided to only send out the newsletter occasionally--when I have something to report or share. This way I can dedicate most of my limited free time to the thing I love the most... writing. :)

Harlequin Reading Challenge

I am still participating in the Harlequin Reading Challenge -- to read 100 books in a year, though I have to admit its been more of a challenge then I'd anticipated. Its not just the reading but the blogging. This month is a perfect example... I am behind on the blogging end of it and I always feel bad because I do not get around to fellow challengers. But I suppose that is just the way of it. I am truly hoping I can make it but we'll see. I have learned so much from this experience and would encourage everyone who loves to write to challenge themselves to not only read but write a review for each. It makes you think, analyze and learn what really makes a book tick. You begin to look at your own writing with new eyes.

Wednesday Writing Romp

This has been so much fun, I can't wait to share our first story Chocolate Flirtations a contemporary romance. It should be up and running by Wednesday next week, May 23rd, 2007.

I've learned so much by doing this about my own writing and am very thankful I did it. I am going to run another one, hopefully a historical, and I will let you know when I'll be looking for writers!

And just in case you are not familiar with how this works, we all take a week and write the next chapter in an unfolding story -- 500-1000 words a chapter. I would like to make note though that it is NOT done LIVE for many reasons but the number one being, this way we can assure our readers a smooth read. :)

** If you think you would be interested in participating in the next round -- send me an email and I'll get your name on the list!

   Interview done BLOG style!

Hi Everyone!  I'd like to introduce Stacy Dawn!  A fellow Word Flirt who I've loved getting to know!  Hopefully someday we'll meet in the outside cyber space!    I've asked her to mix things up for me on my newsletter and instead of doing a question slash answer forum, to share a bit with us BLOG style!  And she's come through with flying colors!
ENJOY!

Stacy Dawn

Author of Romance

Writing is just plain fun.  Where else can you be umpteen hundred different people and not have to live in a padded room to justify them LOL.  Two of the questions I get asked the most as an author are “Where do you get your ideas?” and “Is there any part of yourself in your writing?” so I thought I’d share some of the answers from a few of my stories.

I’ll even start with my very first e-book published, The Theory of Love.  The idea for the story actually came from my life.  You see, my best friend and I are total opposites and one of our ongoing discussions has been about love.  I’ve always believed in soul mates and various forms of love at first sight where my friend believed in stability, status, and bank accounts (side note so I don’t get into trouble: bank accounts as in comfortable—not scraping for every nickel and dime—not old rich men LOL).  Being a romance writer, could you blame me for taking advantage and making it into a story?  Though I could never change her mind, the cool thing about being an author is that you can write your own version of how things should be.  In the Theory of Love, I did just that!

My novella, Love Floats was written for a contest where a garden needed to be the focal point off the story.  Right from the start, I wanted to make the garden in an unusual location, which brought to mind the idea of a landscaper having to build a garden where no land existed—on a boat.  Here again, my own life comes into play.  I had no issues writing about gardening (even though my thumb is as black as coal where plants are concerned) because my mother is a great gardener AND she and my father used to live on a boat.  (I’m not lying about the black thumb either—when my parents moved onto the boat, I inherited their apartment and, no matter how hard I tried, ended up destroying all her houseplants.)  Also, during the writing of Love Floats, which is a whole other story on its own LOL, I remembered a fun childhood memory of getting fish and chips from a small seaside shack and eating on a little stretch of beach when we lived in British Columbia.  Since the story revolved around a boat, I went ahead and used this setting for one of the important scene.

Now, Shadows of Moonlight is about a vampire and a psychic.  Okay, I’m obviously neither so what part of me comes into a story like that you ask?  The internal parts.  The idea came from my beliefs in reincarnation and true love.  Through Merrick and Liz’s confrontation comes my own views on the definition of a monster (yep, you’re going to have to read the story if you’d like to know *g*).

I’ll round this up with Cheatin’ Hearts.  The part of me that made it into the story is my weakness for cowboys.  What a fun story to write!  The idea came from a challenge issued by one of the editors at The Wild Rose Press where she wanted a story about a lost Stetson.  Well, I sometimes have a problem coming up with a story when given a specific topic versus one that comes naturally from my own sensibly insane musings.

Cheatin’ Hearts is a perfect example.  I was rather immersed in another story at the time but I still tried to come up with something, anything—without success.  Then two months later, while in the shower, a song popped into my head—The Chair by George Strait.  BOOM, with shampoo running down my grinning face, the story came to me.  Though the song was the inspiration, I had fun twisting the whole concept around.  I then checked with the editor and she told me to go ahead and write it.  Two weeks later, I could literally hear the laughter in her email.  She loved it and laughed out loud along with another editor.  My aim is to make people feel—love, laughter, tears if need be—and it truly has to be the best thing about writing for me to have someone tell me they laughed out loud while reading one of my stories because there is a little piece of me in every one.
