NEWS!

February is here! What a fun month for romance writers and readers! And the contests...I so do love when the prize is either a good book or chocolate. ;) Would you believe I'm a romance writer who has never really celebrated Valentines day? *shrug* Actually neither my hubby or myself do much of the traditional romance stuff -- I'm one of those people who actually asks for something like a vacuum cleaner for presents. :) I guess part of it is, I hate spending my own money on stuff like that but if someone else does.... *grin* I'm totally fine with it.

I've started a new book! Taste, I Dare Ya! A contemporary romance for single title. I will probably always write like this - one of this, one of that. I just get in the mood for something different and this story has been unfolding with lots of fun twists - I can't wait to share it.

For my paranormal Primal Deceptions there are still two queries out there with agents - hoping this is a good sign ;). I've waited to send anymore out since we're leaving for a vacation to Florida to visit my in-laws soon. I soooo didn't want to go through that agony of wondering if anyone had responded without being able to do anything about it! I've done that enough in the past. But as soon as I get back, I'm flooding the their mail boxes - both agents and editors this time. :)

Wednesday Writing Romp

This has been so much fun, I can't wait to share our first story Chocolate Flirtations a contemporary romance with all of you. It won't be visible though until the end of April. We are not doing it live for a number of reasons but the number one being, this way we can assure our readers a smooth read. :) We are all still taking a week to write our chapter of 500 - 1000 words and passing it on. Already I've enjoyed the fun twists people have come up with!

I plan on starting another next month which will obviously not finish until after the first one -- and by starting it like this we hopefully won't have much down time between the airing of our Writing Romps. Each time we'll host a different theme and I do believe the next one will be a historical. I've always wanted to write a historical and this would a great way to get my feet wet! ;) So keep your eyes and ears ready for my call for volunteers next month!

If you think you would be interested in participating already -- send me an email and I'll get your name on the list!

Interview Highlight -- Shelia M Goss!
Literary Diva & National Bestselling Author

How long have you been writing romance and why romance?
I've been writing since I was 9, but didn't decide to write professionally until 1997. Why not romance (smile). To me, romance is a part of life so that's why regardless of what genre I'm writing, my story will have some romance in it.

This is my favorite question -- What was it like getting your first book contract, especially since you've had articles published -- did it seem like old hat when the call came in? Was this something you've been dreaming of?
Before I got my first book contract, I had successfully published two novels. Both books had been on various bestsellers lists such as the Essence Magazine, Dallas Morning News Bestsellers, etc. and I had received other accolades.

When the call came in, I was glad to get it because I'm always trying to take my career to the next level. Having a major publisher behind you can get you into places where you can't when you're independent. For example, the paperbacks are in Wal-mart and my first hardcover is at BlackExpressions.com.

This first book -- could you tell us a little about it?
My Invisible Husband is about a 34 year old woman (Nicolette Montana) who is tired of family & friends always asking her, "So when are you getting married?" She decides to do the unthinkable--she fakes a Las Vegas wedding. How she lives with the charades makes for an interesting and comical story.

What is your favorite thing about writing?
Being able to create a new reality in between the pages.

Is there a particular author who inspired you to write or inspired you along the way?
Maya Angelou. She spoke at my high school freshman lock-in one night and read some of her poetry and an excerpt from "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be a writer.

What is the strangest character name you've even come up with (either used or abandoned for something more reasonable)?
I really don't recall coming up with any strange names (smile). I try to come up with names to fit the personality of the characters.

You have a book coming out this month -- could you tell us about it?
Roses are thorns, Violets are true is my latest book. It's in stores now. It chronicles the life of award winning actress Rose Purdue and her twin sister Violet. Rose & Violet take sibling rivalry to another level. Between the betrayal, competition & envy, the media is more than happy to fuel the feud between these celebrity twin sisters.

One more question before I thank you for your time and your wonderful answers -- Do you have any advice or thoughts you'd like to share with as of yet unpublished writers?
The life of a writer can be a lonely one. You may get rejected once or many times, but you can't give up if this is something you really want to do. Surround yourself with positive people and also surround yourself with people who will be honest with you. Don't allow the naysayers to stop you from pursuing your dream.

Thanks Nicole!!!
